Hello! I have been lurking for a while but am now far enough along in my ET experiments to actually have questions. I am interested in manuscript illumination which ET is really well suited to. Thanks in advance for patience with me and my, undoubtedly, occasionally silly questions.

Hi, and welcome. The people here are pretty good about sharing expertise, and questions aren't necessarily silly ... we all were beginners once.

One little caveat: Egg tempera is well-suited to illumination if you're making free-standing pages (I've done it, although I had a little trouble at first getting it to adhere to the sheepskin). If you want to make a book, it's too tender and the paint is likely to rub off as the pages touch each other. For that, medieval sources recommend egg white or gum mediums.

Thank you. I don't know if I want to do whole books. I was thinking more on the lines of diptychs or triptychs. I didn't know yolks where more fragile than the whites. That's interesting and I will make a not of it!
