egg tempera like your've never seen it
I am breaking some personal new ground in my egg tempera painting. I have gotten tired of tight little lines and woosie images. I need bold and bright in my life.

I love to play the "what if" game with egg tempera. What if you pour it instead of brush it on? You get moving, beautiful intense color

What if you don't use any white anywhere in the painting? A new one for me

What is you make it a mixed media piece? The squares are actually pieces of glass that I glued over the piece

The concept of the artwork is the stages of life. The spring green glass squares symbolize birth and youth and the quieter gold-green ones represent repose, with of course the center poppy being the epitome of life's energy in the middle years.

Let me know what you think of my new adventure

I like the boldness and adventure into new possibilities..... I know what you mean about the tight line thing... I don't like the glass additions though especially if you have to explain their existence and meaning.

Thanks for you comment! The reasoning behind the glass representing two of the life stages is to move away from my art being so literal. My original thought was a bud representing birth and a seed pod representing repose, but then I wanted to abstract that concept just a tad and that is how I came up with what you see

Hi Linda,
Love it...........if it was 'poured on' then there are some very natural exciting passages especially at the top right (image is quite low res). Just looked again and there are exciting passages all over the panel.
Whilst I fully respect your judgement and use of the coloured glass there is another side of me which just questions the juxtaposition of the natural/organic with the 'contrived' (not meant in a nasty way...).
That other side of me thinks that if the two stages of life could be done in a more subtle way would make the painting work for my other side......
I'm all for pushing ET beyond its so called bounds and just like to see how it stands up.........
As we say here in Nottinghamshire.........."Goodonya"...........
I still love it........

This is really gorgeous Linda! Is it a wet-on-wet thing you did when the paint was applied?
It really looks as if the whole thing is on fire.

My only thought about the glass pieces is are they too large in some way for the scale of your piece? Would they work better if scaled down more like jewels in size for example?
Or should they even be jewels if the piece is so 'on-fire'?

Look forward to seeing more!

Hi Mona

Thanks for your comment and compliments.
I poured on 2 layers of egg tempera that was quite thinned down with water. It is actually very forgiving. I let the first thin layer dry and then went wet into wet for the next layer. After that dried I was able to reapply to several spots that need a bit more work.
The glass pieces seem to be the most controversial element of the work.
