Koo's Workshop

You won't be sorry if you do take her workshop! I just took it in Florida three weeks ago and she is fantastic! A wonderfully organized teacher, a nice person, and her knowledge of art is...

Prints on line

My experience with my own website is that very few of my sales actually come from it. More often people see work on my website, then they want to see the real thing in person, and mostly they are...

Pitfalls of learning Egg Tempera

Like Rob I had a disaster with making my own panels, and the pin holes were such a disappointment I still don't make my own panels and take a chance on what I can buy.

When I first started...

Blending Pigments of different sizes

Hi Koo,
I have no idea how this is done. I will say that the two combo pigments I bought "Blackcurrent Red" and "Lavender Blue" feel different from natural earths that I have tried. I also bought a...

Mineral earths

I have tried several of them, and like most of them....the Blackcurrant Red is wonderful. I find them perfect in small touches here and there, but have not used them for the basis of a whole...

Can you Share some more?

Hi Jim,
Could you share with us some brand names of what you are getting good results from? I would love to experiment more, especially in some abstract work, but I do not think the PearlEx pigments...

Use Mica carefully!

Hi Mark,
I have experimented with PearlEx pigments which are interesting as an idea but somewhat disappointing in practice. I think they would work better in manuscript illumination. On the other...

Giclee issues

Hi Jennifer,
You raise some interesting questions...many of which I wrestle with on a constant basis. I have made some giclee reproductions of my work, large ones, which require special printers....

Ditto Rosemary!

Indeed, this is a beautiful portrait, Phil, and I would be very surprised if you were NOT in the top 10 in that show. Good luck and keep us posted. Thanks for sharing!

Is there a rule in ET like "fat over lean"?

Reading this thread made me wonder if there is the same problem in ET as in oil painting when the "fat over lean" rule is broken. I have never seen anything that says that more egg (oil) in...

Welcome!

Hi Brenda,
I often feel intimidated too! So many people on this forum know so much, and are so helpful.

One book that helped me get started in ET was "The Luminous Brush" by Altoon Sultan. There...

Keep asking those questions

I'm one of those shy ones that Rob mentioned. I appreciate your questions because I don't have to ask them! I read every post and learn so much from both the questions and the answers.
Thanks!...

Thanks for the instructions Richard! This I will try since I have a good amount of pigment and your solution seems like it could yield the Lapis I'm seeking. It won't cost anything and if it works it...

Decant watercolor?

Jason, Exactly how would you go about the mechanics of decanting the watercolor? Sounds like a good idea but probably not worth the effort. I guess the Lapis I have will be destined for the trash...

great idea!

Do you mix in the egg as you would if you were using plain pigments? I know DS Lapis Watercolor but didn't think it was a good idea to mix watercolors in with "pure" pigments. I guess you can do it...

Question Lapis Lazuli questions

I bought some Lapis...it was pretty expensive, for me, at around $80. It was a huge disappointment because it was not really blue and it was so gritty it was unusable. It was not from Afghanistan but...
