I'm looking with interest at Natural Pigments Tempera Ground. I'd like to buy some but am unsure of how much to buy. The jars come in 8, 16, and 32 ounces; does anyone know how far it goes? Like,...

I think I just did something horribly wrong with the panels when I made them. They were, indeed, really REALLY shiny and they behave like clayboard: all is fine and then, whamo!, slipping paint...

arbrador, thank you for the kind advice although I really do not think I am using the paint too thickly as I add a TON of water. So much so, in fact, that the color is barely visible when applied so...

Ah, well, puzzled is where I live these days. I've been looking through the notes I took when I made the panel and nothing is jumping out at me and sanding does not seem to be altering the surface...

Oh, Koo! I didn't mean to disparage your recipe. I just said that so you all would know I used an actual gesso recipe and not one I pulled out of a hat. No revenge necessary. Although, if I...

I don't know how to answer the "hard or soft" question, Bron, because I've never really painted on panels before. They don't feel soft, certainly. They do feel very smooth and slick. And they are...

Panels, paint, and frustration

Several months ago, I made some gesso panels according to the instructions in Koo's wonderful book. They are lovely and smooth and seriously pissing me off.

My problem is that no matter what...

I just googled him. Oh my. Is he schizophrenic? It's just hard to believe one person can paint beautiful children and then switch to the fever-dream stuff. You'd think it would be downright...

Do you mean reducing the absorption of the glue by the paper or reducing the absorption of the ET into the paper? I was under the (possibly false) impression that the RSG helps paper accept more...

Paper treated with RSG question

I recently prepared a few sheets of Strathmore 300 Series Bristol paper with 2 coats of RSG. After drying, the paper is no longer smooth but rough and grainy and unpleasant to work on. Is it...
