Default Air brush and ET

Has anyone tried using egg tempera in an air brush? Aside from the safety aspect (I would wear a respirator-type mask), what are your experiences? Would an airbrush work similarly to the hatching technique in terms of luminosity? Has anyone tried combining it with more traditional ET?

I have experimented with an air brush but found that as I built up the layers the binding power of the egg reduced drastically. I was finding that I had to apply a film of paint, allow it to dry and then wipe off the loose pigment with a paper towel. This process had to be repeated for each subsequent coat. The final effect though, looks so contrived and mechanical. OK, you can get a beautiful gradation, the luminosity is retained but then all personal painterly effects are totally lost.
Goodbye to the air brush but at least it was worth a try.
