Default Preservatives in egg tempera paint/egg medium

I've read about adding oil of clove or white vinegar to the paint/egg mixture to prevent molds or other bacterias from forming. But some references don't call for any type of preservatives. Any good advice on preservatives? Thanks. L.J.

I've been using ET for nearly 10 yrs now & the only preservative I use is a few drops of vinegar in the egg mixture before I add it to the pigment. B.W.

I love what clove oil does for mine. No cockroaches eating the paintings since I started using this. It's cheap, just one drop per egg yolk. D.O.
