Default Conversation with the fairy

I finally managed to post, and would appreciate your critique. This painting is pure egg tempera with gold leaf, size 18x24 cm. It is called conversation with the fairy. It is made after a photograph a friend of mine made of her boy.

Nice image, I think though that the perspective and anatomy of the arm is a bit off.

hi Alexandra

I do like your treatment of the child's face and hand - I do think too there is a little perspective problem with the arm - and I think a more uniform background would valorise (??) your subject more

Best wishes for 2007

Sabine

Thanks for your remarks. The perpective and anatomy of the arm is exactly like it was on the photograph, a photo I can not show as I got only a printed version.
The background is much nicer in real life,as gold leaf is hard to photgraph.

I think it's brilliant, Alex. The perspective of the arm works fine for me. The natural expression on the face is wonderful. I would agree with Sabine that a less busy background would highlight the figure more, (particularly the fairy), but, as you say, gold leaf is hard to photograph and the original may work fine.
Great job!
Phil

Sure, young children's arms can take on odd-looking shapes sometimes. One of the big challenges of art is to try to put down what you *see*, not what you *know*. It's cute.

Sabine, is the word you want perhaps "strengthen"? That is, make stronger, to stand out more?
