I can't believe I missed the link to this second piece by Fred Wessel until now. Am I the only one? (and how long can I keep blaming things on four years of sleep deprivation with the babies?.. not much longer. )

This is truly inspiring and beautiful work... The whole process of inscribing constellations in the gold is incredible. I wish I could see this in person. He worked on it for six months, which is something to remember when the going gets tough. (I recently read that Ingres once spent ten days on one hand.)

It also makes me want to read a little more about the history of the sundial.

300 pigments? this is not an artist with hang ups about working with a limited palette. it sounds like heaven... how many get used I wonder?
