Default re-working tempera months later...

I have a tendency to re-work old paintings of mine...as much as two years after finishing a piece I decide it is in fact not finished....So will the cured paint act ok with the new et on top of it? I do not varnish or seal my paintings, nor do I store them under glass. anyone? Thanks!

Dear LaFleur,

I just re-did the sky on a painting I had finished over a year ago. The paint beaded up at first, but with a little brushing out it blended in fine. It seems to have adhered OK, though time will tell.

Other postees have had problems with the paint not blending with previous layers. One suggested scrubbing (carefully) the surface to be repainted with a dilute solution of egg and water to soften up the top layer. Probably good advice, though I didn't find it necessary.

Hope this helps.

Phil
