Painting Icons

Hello all, this is my first time on this website. I have drawn two Icons, and need advice on specifically how to paint an Icon. I am going to purchase the wood, and all of the supplies, it is going to be quite expensive. I am ordering my supplies from Sinopia. If anyone has any tips on how to get started, please let me know.
