Aloha from Hawaii all! I recently got back into my painting a few months ago, and got into eggtempera again. Thanks for the wondeful opportunity to display our works here for critiqueing. This image is from a childhood memory of traveling around the states and my parents were into stopping at antiques shops. This was hanging on the wall in one of the in Pennsylvania and so as a tribute to my parents travels I created this painting. Its about 70% complete. Just to let folks know, I haven't picked up a brush in almost 20 years, I have been drawing a bit now and then, but haven't been painting at all like this in those years. Thanks and take care all.

This is nice. Are you working on watercolour paper?

Brien, I like this one also. The textures are so well done. I can "feel" the hair of the horse's mane and the patchwork looks like, maybe velvet. The colors are nice, too. Welcome back to egg tempera.

I use 400lb Arches paper, for my temperas, and 140lb for my watercolours, and thanks for the comment!

Thank you for your comments, and its great to be back, I am fortunate that at my young age of 45, that I get to retire from the workforce and devote myself to my artwork full-time. (I have a wonderful wife who coaxed me into doing this....)

Brian, do you use hot press or cold press 400 Arches for your ET? And, do you need to apply a primer of gesso before painting?

I only use hot press, since the absorption is a lot less than using cold press, and I don't use a primer, since I was told in the past that one wasn't needed when using paper for egg. Since there is some absorption though, I do have to do a bit more layering of the colors. I normally do a few watercolour washes for my underpainting.

my first doodles back in the early 80's in ET was on paper and you can get great textures.
