when I first logged on - before I "registered" - I found a topic from someone talking about his egg tempera recipe using oil. Said he had been an artist since 1980. I was intrigued by his formula and wanted to explore it more but, I continued searching the site and could not get back to the same place. I am hoping that, somehow, someone can get me back there. The only real clue I have is "occupation - artist" and since 1980. Thanks

Try clicking on the "search" button at the top of the forum page. Type 1980 into the top search query box. Leave all of the other options at their default values. You get a list of all posts that have "1980" in them.

By all means, take a look at Robert Massey's "Formulas for Painters" (http://www.amazon.com/Formulas-Painters-Robert-Massey/dp/0823018776), which has several variations of egg tempera and oil recipes. This is one of the most useful books for painters there is.
