View Full Version : Kremer abandons US
I just got off the phone with Kremer Pigments in NYC. After placing my order I asked the very helpful clerk if she knew that the link to their on-line catalog was broken. She said she wasn’t surprised, partially because all of their software comes from corporate in Germany and runs in dos, but also, Kremer just sold the US operation to Sinopia out of San Francisco. The NYC store will now be Sinopia. I find this turn a little alarming. Most of Sinopia’s product line is straight from Kremer. However they now only carry a subset of the Kremer catalog and their prices are higher. Will they still carry 4 choices of chalk and 5 of marble dust?

Thanks for this news!
I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I always knew Sinopia was a subset of Kremer (was never sure how that worked though) but I liked online ordering through Sinopia. Kremer's online ordering was a bit kludgy and to my knowledge wasn't even around back when I initially got pigments. And yes, the PCs in their stores were running DOS, which didnt fill me with confidence. Sinopia was just easier to order from online, IMO.
Also, the NYC Kremer store was never completely stocked (how could it be?) and had erratic hours, so if Sinopia continues running that store, it might be an improvement. Perhaps Sinopia will expand their offerings, or perhaps Kremer will still offer US supplies through their paper catalogue and mail order.
FYI to those who visited the NYC Kremer store, it is not in Soho anymore, but up in Chelsea, not far from Penn Station.

I think its time some of us start diging in the mountains for raw pigments as for marble, I could ask the night security guard for some parthanon dust marble or maybe a leg or an eye from godess Athina

Thisis good news. It's from http://sinopia.com/kremer.html, which is the URL you get if you click the "US" page from the www.kremer-pigmente.de/ site.
Please note, that Kremer Pigments INC was aquired by Sinopia Pigments and Materials in December of 2006. While Kremer New York will remain the same, catalogues (both printed and on-line) and mail order fullfillment will be consolidated. We are in the process of putting together a joint printed and on-line catalogue. Both catalogues will contain all Kremer New York as well as all Sinopia products.
