For Mara and others who wish to try dry pigments, I just saw some sample size Sinopia pigment sets in the latest Dick Blick catalog. page 25 of the Holiday sale edition. This could be a less expensive way to try dry.

MO2807-1089 Historic 8-color set 29.98
MO2807-1159 Complete 15-color set 59.98

They did not give a list of what was included in these sets! However from the crummy photo in the catalog, the 8 color set looks like ochres and green earths. Described as"...50 gram glass jars in each set, with instructions included on how to make paint." They did not specify what kind of paint, so who knows what market they had in mind.

They have a website www.dickblick.com and 800 number 800.828.4548

This is not an endorsement of this company or product! Just offered as another resource.

Sinopia has a starter set for the same amount but with a listing of the colours...also I think a better selection of colours http://www.sinopia.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1283

I have not ever visited the Sinopia website before. It is great. I did not realize that they had one as I already have a hundred year supply of pigment.

Their website basic selection is all one needs to paint traditionally and is a real service to those who just want to try dry pigments without a great outlay.

Thanks for the link

Plus if you're in San Francisco you can go into the Sinopia store itself!
