Heather Larson
Heather and her brother were raised in Denver by their single mother and spent the summer months back in Chicago with her father. She says that if she were to write a biography she would call it 'My father called me Princess but my mother called me George'. She spent 9 years as a jockey then decided there was little security or future there and feels very fortunate to have been hired by the Denver Fire Department, retiring after 21 years.
She entered into her world of artistic dreams as a child with pencil sketches which were the foundation of a desire that would lay dormant for many years until refreshed in adulthood. Her return to creativity would begin with silversmithing then meander to sketching and watercolor. She always preferred realistic renderings when painting and found herself pulled across the room to admire the few egg tempera paintings found when attending gallery shows. Luckily fate would place before her a nationally renowned egg tempera painter who teaches the process at the local art students league. The ancient history of egg tempera as well as the vibrant detail she is able to achieve have combined to capture her heart.
Not desiring the pressure of showing in galleries, Heather has just begun to share her work after much encouragement from her family and friends. She received the Best Emerging Artist award in 2007 at the first showing of her work.
