Nola McConnan
"Making pictures is my life. Making images is my profession."
In 1974 Nola graduated from OCA (Ontario College of Art & Design), AOCA Communications & Design. She went on to a career in fine visual art and design in a variety of mediums, not the least of which was needle valve technical pens. In 1980, on whim, Nola picked up a Rowney starter set of tubed egg tempera colours. Stepping from pen to tempera was an easy natural progression.
Egg tempera appealed to Nola on all levels: she could work slowly with layered colour on an intimate scale. She could develop then refine figure modeling and the delicate textures of animal coats of all sorts. She had discovered the perfect medium for her fine sporting art works. The beautiful results hang in private collections across North America.
Nola's landscape images continue to evolve. Current works examine Ontario waters' edges. Seeking out dramatic compositions with lots of texture Nola initially works en pleine aire, in pencil or watercolour. In the Studio the pictures are brought to vivid completion. The finished images are intimately scaled depictions, suitable to residential settings with a maximum size, 16" x 20" that encourages viewers to get up close and personal.
