Laurie A.E. O'Meara

Laurie A.E. O'Meara is a self-taught artist with over 25 years of art experience. Beginning with pen and ink as a primary medium, she has also worked in watercolor and gouache, pastel, oil, colored pencil, and most recently, egg tempera.
The illustration of nature's beauty is the primary focus of the artist's work, and she utilizes all the different media to attain this goal, although she is especially drawn to the luminosity of egg tempera. "I find that no other medium allows the artist such control over detail combined with a depth and inner light as does egg tempera. It's traditional method of application, hatching, is similar to working in pencil or pen and ink, and as much as I love those mediums, the finished result does not "glow" as egg tempera does."

Working as a graphic artist, accepting commissioned projects, exhibiting in several galleries across the country, and being nominated for award grants are a few of the notations in her art career. Laurie further advanced her love of botanical illustration and floral subjects by obtaining an Ontario Diploma in Horticulture through the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada.

For most of her life, and continuing to the present, she resides on Cape Cod in Massachusetts with her family, and the beautiful flora and fauna of this New England peninsula continues to inspire both her artwork and horticulture practice. Her artwork is in private collections throughout the United States.
