Scherer & Ouporov
Scherer & Ouporov are collaborative artists whose egg tempera
work combines both Eastern and Western European 15-16th techniques
with contemporary methods. Scherer first studied egg tempera
painting at the New York Academy in 1987 and later she and Ouporov
practiced the technique together in Russia. The two met in Moscow
in 1989 when Scherer, a recipient of an international visual arts
grant, became the first American artist to be accepted into the
Russian Academy where Ouporov was a graduate student. Their
first solo exhibition, in 1991, was held at the Central House
of Artists, New Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, by invitation of
the Union of Artists and the Ministry of Culture of the U.S.S.R.
Since then Scherer & Ouporov have had solo museum exhibitions throughout the United States and Russia. Their works are in many public and private collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, The New York Public Library, The State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg, and the Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts, Russia.
Scherer & Ouporov are represented by Claire Oliver Fine Art in New York City and Turner Carroll Gallery in Santa Fe. They currently reside in Brooklyn, New York.
